I wanted to send a quick thank you to everyone who replied to my recent email about David Hockney.
It was wonderful to hear from so many fellow art lovers.
Art has always been a huge source of inspiration for me. I’m no critic or historian, but I’ve always enjoyed the way great artists make us see the world differently.
That love of art has found its way into quite a few Colour Palette Company designs over the years.
If you enjoyed the Hockney reference on The Los Angeles Colour Palette, you might like two of my personal favourites: The Art Masters Colour Palette and The Pop Art Colour Palette.
The Art Masters palette is a celebration of some of the artists whose work I return to time and time again. Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Monet’s water lilies, Van Gogh’s sunflowers, Klimt’s gold leaf masterpieces, Turner’s extraordinary skies and the sculpture of Barbara Hepworth all found their way into the colour choices.
The Pop Art palette takes things in a completely different direction. Bright, bold and unapologetically fun, it includes colours inspired by Warhol’s Brillo Boxes, Marilyn Monroe, Peter Blake, Roy Lichtenstein and the famous Campbell’s Soup Can prints.
Creating these palettes gave me an excuse to spend time with some of my favourite artists and artworks while trying to capture their spirit through colour. That’s one of the joys of what I do.
I’d love to create more art-inspired palettes in the future.
Which art movement, artist or genre would you most like to see celebrated as a Colour Palette?
Impressionism? Art Deco? The Pre-Raphaelites? Surrealism? Modern British art? Something completely different?
I’m always looking for inspiration.
Stacey
